Text length control lets you set minimum and maximum character limits on Text Input and Text Area options. This ensures customer-entered text fits your product’s physical constraints.

How to Set Character Limits

  1. Open your customizer in the Podifai editor.
  2. Click on a Text Input or Text Area option.
  3. In the right sidebar, set the Min Characters and Max Characters values.
  4. Save your customizer.
Customers will see a character counter and receive a validation message if they exceed the limit or don’t meet the minimum.

Minimum Character Limits

Use minimum limits when the personalization requires a certain length:
  • Monogram initials: min 1, max 3
  • Name engraving: min 2, max 20
  • Date (text): min 8, max 10 (e.g., “01/01/2025”)

How It Looks to Customers

When a character limit is set, customers see:
  • A counter showing characters remaining (e.g., “12/20”)
  • An error message if they try to submit text that’s too short or too long
  • The input field prevents typing beyond the maximum

Best Practices

Always set a maximum for engraving and embroidery options. Without a limit, customers may enter text that’s physically impossible to produce, leading to order issues.
Test your character limit by typing the maximum number of characters and checking if the text fits on your actual product. Account for wide characters (W, M) vs narrow ones (i, l).
If using live preview with curved text, test the character limit at maximum curvature. Long text on tight curves can look crowded.
